Immediate, Life-Saving Care

United Hospital District’s Emergency Department is open 24 hours a day for patient needs. Our care team consists of highly trained, board certified doctors, nurses and nurse anesthetists who are ready to provide specialized care to patients quickly. We keep our Emergency Room wait times as low as possible so you can get immediate critical care.

  • UHD is a certified Acute Ready Stroke Hospital by the Minnesota Department of Health
  • UHD is a Level IV Trauma Center
  • UHD has been awarded Best Emergency Care by Women’s Choice Award in 2019

Our Emergency Department entrance is located on South Moore Street at W. 11th Street and clearly marked by a large red sign. Call (507) 526-3273 with any questions.

When should I go to the emergency room (ER)?

If you are experiencing a life-threatening illness, injury or infection, call 911 or head to the nearest emergency room immediately. Some examples of conditions treated in the ER include:

  • Severe chest pain/cardiovascular emergencies
  • Dizziness
  • Palpitations or fast heart beat
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Sudden or severe pain
  • Head injuries, brain injury or stroke/neurological emergencies
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Confusion or inability to speak
  • Speech problems or slurred speech
  • Deep or complicated cuts
  • Poisoning
  • Major burns
  • Broken bones
  • Severe abdominal pain
  • High fever
  • Severe eye injury
  • Carbon monoxide exposure
  • Sudden blindness
  • Partial or full paralysis
  • Rape
  • Suicidal behavior
